The shift towards a zero-injury safety culture in union construction and maintenance began in the mid-1980s, when owner-clients began to recognize the true cost of workplace injuries, which often ranged in the years from tens of millions of dollars a year. Owners who had previously taken care of the safety standards of their contractors began to become more involved. The importance of protecting workers – not to mention potential savings – has led them to take action. 2. The employer must submit requests to extend the site via the NMAPC website to the www.nmapc.org address for the place where the work is done. The employer must be up to date when allocating all administrative fees and ancillary services in order to obtain or use a valid extension of the site.3 This agreement is concluded only between the employer and the International Union and binds its local unions and its associated district councils. It is the responsibility of the International Union to act in a timely manner for all requests for enlargement. The NMAPC is the only intermediary or administrative body for this agreement and the policy decisions contained in the NMAPC Book of Decisions that are an integral part of this agreement. The amendments to this agreement are made only by the majority of the NMAPC.4 This agreement is a stand-alone agreement and none of the provisions of a local, regional or national collective agreement apply unless expressly incorporated into it. In addition, this contract is the exclusive collective agreement for all work to which it is extended and, for this work, it replaces and replaces the terms of all other national, regional or local collective agreements that the parties or one of them can sign.
