Episode 6: TPC San Antonio (Oaks)
After our brief stop in southern Mississippi, we headed due west for Texas. Our first of two rounds in the state was at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course.
As host to the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open each year, the Oaks Course is your chance to play a tour quality golf course.
Though the fairways are generous, the long layout means lots of mid-to-long irons into perched, tough-to-hit greens.
Shaved runoffs and expansive bunkering lead to lots of challenging up-and-downs should your iron game be anything less than precise.
Windy conditions meant we did our fair share of scrambling throughout the round!
The natural layout is free from any on-course homes, and takes you through the rolling terrain of San Antonio.
A few of the more unique characteristics of the Oaks Course is the horseshoe-shaped double green, shared by holes 2 and 7, and the signature bunker placed smack in the middle of the 16th green.
If you want a taste of what the tour guys get to face on a regular basis, TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course will deliver.
