Dapper Travel Diaries: Week 1

Welcome to The Dapper Travel Diaries, a new series we created to tell the stories of our RV travels during the Ultimate Golf Road Trip. I (Brittany – the wife and photographer) thought it would be fun to recap some of the unique stories that really make up what this trip is all about.

Every Tuesday, I’ll give a short and sweet rundown of our week through my favorite image and story of that day, whether it’s travel, golf, photography, RV or anything in between.

This year-long adventure is about so much more than simply playing and photographing beautiful golf courses around the country – it’s about the people, experiences and all the magic in between. We hope this will give you an idea of what our life on the road looks like this year for the Ultimate Golf Road Trip!

Day 1 – Can you teach me Photoshop?

Thanks to Boondockers Welcome (think Airbnb for RVers), we found the perfect couple to meet on our very first stop in the new rig in St. Augustine, FL. Kirk here is a retired photographer of 30+ years and a travel lover too. He lived full-time on a sailboat for a decade in his younger years and currently travels a few months of each year in his self-renovated sprinter van. The man knows his stuff about photography and has seen it all in our industry. We exchanged stories for a few hours and I soaked up as much of his creative genius as I could. He even showed me his go-to Photoshop tricks. #score

Day 2 – Don’t wine if I do

Another new travel favorite is Harvest Host to find local, unique places to park overnight. We were the only ones at Summer Crush Winery in Fort Pierce, FL and enjoyed gorgeous views, peace, and quiet (when we didn’t have the generator on) and wine tasting. Don’t mind if we do!

Day 3 – No ma’am. I won’t valet your RV.

It was supposed to be a leisurely morning 1-hour drive with plenty of time to get to The Dye Preserve in Jupiter, Florida, where we were graciously invited to play. That was until Jordan let me handle the navigation and I drove an hour in the wrong direction. Somehow we still made it on time (barely) and surprisingly the valet wasn’t down for parking the rig, so we tucked’er away here, just outside the course gates.

Day 4 – Can I borrow your water hose?

We were low on water, but luckily we parked overnight at our new friend’s house who oh-so-nicely let us snag a real (more than 5 minute) hot shower #totallynormal. Before we left to head north, we filled up our tanks to guarantee our showers the next day.

Day 5 – Walmart to the rescue

We crashed in a Walmart parking lot for the night, but a dead battery left us on the hunt for some help and a nice guy named Javier saved the day! A newly purchased extra-long set of jumper cables and a nice gesture later, we were back in business. But we probably need a new starter #lifeontheroadproblems. We still made it to TPC Sawgrass later than expected, so we burned the midnight oil together to get the work done.

That’s the short and sweet version of our first week on the #ultimategolfroadtrip. See you next week!
