“No stress man, we’re going to make it.”
As we crept along New York City’s George Washington bridge, red brake lights illuminating as far as the eye could see, I wasn’t entirely convinced. We were less than 12-hours into The Sprint to Streamsong, and Matt Cardis, my travel parter for this epic golf road trip, was already talking me off the ledge.
Our launch event at the growingly popular Golf & Body NYC was set to kick-off at 7PM, meaning we had less than 90-minutes to find our way into the heart of Manhattan. We’d left plenty of time for our drive from Montauk to NYC, but had failed to calculate the bumper-to-bumper traffic that’s synonymous with rush hour in the Big Apple.
Luckily, cool heads prevailed, and we somehow managed to escape rush hour traffic, navigate the narrow city streets to our Jersey City RV Park, execute the “5-minute drill” to look our dapper best, hop the PATH train into the City, and arrive just in time for our event at Golf & Body NYC.
I’d read a lot about Golf & Body NYC (thanks in large part to 2016 US Mid AM Champion and G&B member Stewart Hagestad) and couldn’t wait to see the facility for myself. Fortunately, their central location in Manhattan (32nd & 6th Ave) makes for a super easy commute for those (like us) traveling into the city. After hopping off the PATH train at the 33rd street stop, we turned the corner and were greeted by the sleek Golf & Body entrance. A sign of what’s to come.
A quick elevator ride, and we’d arrived. Our tardy arrival meant a tour would have to wait, but I was immediately impressed by the scale of the facility. We strolled by four separate hitting bays — each outfitted with golf simulators and chairs for lounging — and past a large practice putting green before reaching the private event area.
The Perfect Spot for a Golf Social Event
If asked to describe the perfect space to host an event, I fear my wish list may actually fall short of the space created by Golf & Body NYC. A golf simulator, large putting and chipping green, comfy couches for lounging, and a personal bar tender serving-up drinks to guests highlighted the dream event space. It’s location at the far end of the floor not only gives a secluded, private feel, but also boasts some great views of the bustling New York City Streets below. Throw in the option to serve-up food and turning on the big game (or golf, of course) on the TV, and this space can’t be beat.
While Matt and I wandered amongst our guests, introducing ourselves (many we’d actually never met in person) and chatting golf and travel, others enjoyed showcasing their skills on our private golf simulator.
Golf & Body provided a nice array of the latest clubs (Taylor Made, Titleist, etc.) for our use during the event, and I loved how Bryan (our host for the night) even dished out pointers and swing tips to guests.
How many events have you been to where you can compete in a closest to the pin contest at Pebble Beach’s iconic 7th green and show off your long-driving abilities amidst a backdrop framed by the Colorado Rockies, all while socializing (drink in hand) with other like minded people? That’s certainly a first for me!
As we met and mingled with the 20 or so people in attendance (it can accommodate up to 35 and the entire place can be rented out for large events), our two hours at Golf & Body really flew by. We milked every minute, ripping drivers up until the very end, before bidding our guests farewell — a big thank you to those from our Instagram communities and partner brands that attended! After having our launch event here, it’s easy to see why Golf & Body is a go-to spot for member socials and corporate events alike.
Touring Golf & Body
After our event, the Golf & Body crew let Matt and I wander around their facilities to see what members of this private club get to enjoy on a daily basis.
Having lived in Manhattan for 3-years myself, I know what a struggle it can be to keep the golf game sharp. While members enjoy practicing on the same simulators you might smack balls into during an event, the use of trackman and a lineup of decorated PGA instructors take the experience one step further. From fixing a slice to dialing in your numbers or fitting-up the perfect set of custom clubs, Golf & Body NYC really offers it all.
It’s no secret that taking care of and training our bodies has become an instrumental part of improving our golf game. Golf & Body NYC offers members a state-of-the-art fitness center featuring professional-grade programming and experienced trainers. And, it doesn’t hurt that the fitness center also boasts those great city views, too
As a huge proponent of health and wellness myself, I love that Golf & Body NYC provides members the tools and support necessary to better their fitness and flexibility, and in turn positively impact their overall golf performance. Something we can all learn from!
Final Thoughts on Golf & Body NYC
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our time at Golf & Body NYC. Feedback from our guests was incredible too, as they loved being able to actually play golf while socializing as a group. It’s an incredible spot for hosting an event, and their approach of improving golf performance through instruction, fitness and overall wellness is something we should all implement in our own games.
Though Brittany and I don’t have any plans to move back to NYC, I know the first place I’d join if we did. With membership currently at full capacity though, I suppose I’d better go ahead put my name on the waiting list right now!
Thanks for your hospitality Golf & Body NYC!
